The Board Members of the Darien Historical Society are pleased to announce the completion of a project that has been in the works for some time, and has finally come to fruition.
In 2018, the Society obtained a Civil War-era artifact with an incredible lineage. The item is a well-preserved American Flag made for the residents of the then-named “Cass” community, to show patriotism in a time of domestic unrest. It is known today as the “1861 Cass Flag”.
Discovered in the possession of the American Legion Post 80 in Downers Grove the flag was graciously returned to its “home” in present-day Darien. The Darien Historical Society has undertaken a huge financial and physical effort to have the flag restored and prominently displayed in the Old Lace Schoolhouse and Museum. We are accepting donations to help offset some of these costs, as fundraising opportunities have been sparse over the past two years. In return, DHS is offering a special private unveiling ceremony to be held in the museum ahead of a more public dedication.
Please consider a donation mailed (or use the donate button) to the museum and please include your contact information for a formal invitation to follow.
